A Cause for Paws

Pets. They have been, are, and always will be an important part of my life. I cannot imagine a life without them. A pet gives so much to me that I must give back to those who need help. I have supported several animal rescues and help groups over the years. Sometimes it has been through a financial donation, food, volunteer labor , fostering or through handmade items. There are many ways to give back.  My latest donation is an event table skirt for Idaho Animal Rescue Network . They are based in Lewiston, ID and are doing great things not only for this valley, but throughout a wider area. When I knew IARN was having an event for kitten adoptions, I wanted to give them something.  I have several yards of the Rescue Me! fabric by Windham Fabrics in my stash.  My brain went to work and I designed an adjustable table skirt that will work on 6' or 8' tables. I used the framed prints to create a border around the top and then the red dog print for the bottom. It is ...

Quilted Sling Totes

Have I said how much I love the Rescue Me line of fabrics from Windham? Well, I do! I have a few yards of their cat and dog panels and have been thinking on how to use some of it. The free pattern for a tote online was too large in my opinion. I also did not care for the construction of it. Time to sit and think. Here are the results of my design session. Sling totes! Cat Version Dog Version Each tote is 9" wide by 13" tall by 3.5" deep. The polypro webbing handles are 1" wide by 52" long so you can sling it over your shoulder and go! Each tote is lightly quilted using a thin 80/20 batting. The cat version features a red handle and the red and black paw print fabric for the lining, and the dog version has a black handle and a black and white bones lining material.   These sling totes will sell for $24 each plus shipping.

Rescue Me! Tote Bag

I purchased some fabric not too long ago made by Windham Fabrics called Rescue Me! It is a small collection of fabrics about rescuing and adopting cats and dogs. Very cute line of fabrics! One of the animal rescue groups I support is S.A.F.E. Sanctuary (Save Animals From Euthanasia) in Faribault, Minnesota. They are having a fundraiser in February so I decided to make a tote bag from the rescue fabric and donate it to them. Hopefully someone will bid a lot of money on the tote bag to help support their efforts in animal rescue. I have another color way of fabric in the dog print and then one in cats. I plan on making more totes and donating them to a couple of other shelters I support. I love this fabric and it is being put to use for good causes!
